In a time of great uncertainty in America, we need more people to stand up and say things like this:
An orphaned head not attached to a body is vulnerable, but not completely without resources. It can roll about under its own power without suffering any ill effects from the jolting ride. It also has an extraordinarily long tongue, more than three feet long. This tongue can be used to manipulate objects, move about, or even attack an unwary victim. An orphan head sometimes acquires bodies by sneaking up on a sleeping victim, strangling him with its tongue, and then gnawing through the corpse's neck. --GURPS Deadlands: Varmints posted by Jon at 11:04 AM Wednesday, March 05, 2003
It's gloomy here in Cambridge and my weekly Ars Magica session has been cancelled, so I guess it's time to write more in the blog. This is only my third entry and it's still taking some time to get used to. I feel like I have a lot to say, but I don't what it is or how to begin. So, I'll need you readers to put up with my incoherency for a few weeks.
I took a look at Sci-Fi Channels' promo page for the upcoming Riverworld movie: http://www.scifi.com/onair/scifipictures/riverworld Wow, SFC, thanks for ruining two of my favorite science fiction novels! (To Your Scattered Bodies Go and The Fabulous Riverboat) "The evil lord Valdemar... thunders in with an army, to announce that he is the ruler of Riverworld." Umm, as I remember it, everyone woke up at once on Riverworld and they spent time learning to work together and build a civilization. No trite characters, no good guys and bad guys -- in short, none of this "evil lord Valdemar" nonsense. Now, I'm not one of those Lord of the Rings fanboys who criticized every nitpicky difference between the books and the movies (heck, I'm glad they took out Tom Bobadil), but this thing looks like a gross perversion. I'll give it a chance, but my expectations are pretty low. It can't be worse than the Dream Team. posted by Jon at 5:06 PM Tuesday, March 04, 2003
Now Playing: Charles Mingus - Mingus Ah Um
Darn BlogSpot store has been unavailable for days, so I can't get rid of that ugly banner at the top of the screen. And it goes so well with orange! Since this page is called The Whole Enchilada, it seems appropriate to mention that we (my wife Kim and I) went to two different Mexican restaurants last Saturday. Mexican is my absolute favorite type of food. It's got spice, subtlety, color, variety, texture. I could eat Mexican all day long if I had to. Oh, man, I'm hungry. That's enough for now -- after a day at work in front of a computer screen, I can't bear to look at one any longer. posted by Jon at 5:10 PM |
